Butterfield Brewing Company
This neighborhood was in transition from barrio to bohemian and on its way to becoming chic. The one-story, concrete block building with a deep, overhanging “mansard” provided retail space for three tenants. In creating the town’s first microbrewery, our original scope was limited to the interior. But challenged by the ugly exterior and the poor orientation of the entry, we presented a design concept to the building owner that was gladly accepted.
New awnings provided more light with better sun control to brighten the interior. The design concept was to express how beer was made by making the whole process visible to the customer. The result was a more compact and efficient brewery.
