Universal Music & Video Distribution
Universal Studios, Hollywood
Through a comprehensive interior programming study to determine the occupant needs, this division of MCA Entertainment required two floors of class ‘A’ office space in a new tower on the Universal Studios lot. A new, private staircase would be designed to connect the two levels.
Recycling was not a big issue because the space had not been developed previously and no demolition was required. However, metal scraps were separated during construction. The completed facility needed a recycling area to deal with the tenant’s massive quantities of cardboard from incoming and outgoing shipments. A glare-free lighting design resulted in nice ambient qualities and energy savings by utilizing cold-cathode lamps (similar to fluorescent) in a reflective cove and bouncing the light off the ceiling. Light colors on the walls and ceilings assisted in getting natural light deeper into the space.
