Designed as four individual studio offices, the building provides wide doors and high ceilings with sky lighted interiors. With zero setbacks on three sides, the challenge was to design an attractive structure with non-combustible materials in a transitional neighborhood. Windows could only be used at the front elevation.
Creative use of fluorescent billboard lights over the roll-up doors provided efficient and functional lighting. The commercial windows were openable and concrete “eyebrows” provided appropriate shading for the south facing exposure. The building has attracted architects, photographers, contractors and winemakers as tenants.
