Library

June 20, 2017

Collaborating with a Master Carpenter, we developed a design for a classic, private library in San Francisco’s historic Russian Hill neighborhood. In joining two separate units, the whole top floor had been stripped to the framing while retaining the historic windows and fireplace. We detailed the paneling and floor from sustainable cherry. The ceiling was coffered and designed to align with the paneling and the existing windows. The plaster ceiling, the only surface not covered with wood, was painted white to contrast with the wood. Black walnut inlay highlights the cherry floor. The bookcases are lighted and the only furniture in the room are two wingback chairs in front of a marble fireplace.
